Monitoring of marine mammals

Baseline information was established on marine mammals for the design of impact mitigation strategies.

Goals and achievements:

• Established relative diversity, distribution, abundance and behavior of the gray whale and other marine mammals.
• Established mitigation strategies to prevent or minimize potential impacts due to the construction and operation of the project.
• Implement long-term monitoring program at Energía Costa Azul to measure the plan’s effectiveness.

After the first period of observation, experts concluded that:

The Energía Costa Azul project does not present a high risk for the gray whale.
