Baja California is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing states in Mexico. Every day new companies are established that drive the economy of the region and generate new jobs, which has placed Baja California in a privileged situation, with a job growth rate that is 62% above the national average. At the same time, it is estimated that the population of the state will triple from 2.5 to 7.5 million inhabitants by the year 2020.

A dynamic economy, the constant generation of new jobs and population growth will create a greater demand for energy in the near future.

Demand for energy

According to Sener, energy demand in Baja California will grow at an annual rate of 10.7%, which means that within 10 years Baja California will need more than twice the electricity it consumes today. To face this growing need for electricity, Baja California must build one new power plant every 4 or 5 years. Due to the fact that most new power plants are fueled with natural gas, greater demand for electricity also means greater demand for natural gas.
