Sempra Energy is building the
Energía Costa Azul liquefied natural gas (LNG) receipt terminal
and related facilities about 14 miles north of Ensenada,
Baja California, Mexico. The $875 million project will have
the capacity to import up to 1 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural
gas per day, with room for expansion. When the facility
becomes operational in 2008, it will be the first new LNG
project on North America's west coast.
Energía Costa Azul has secured a site with access to deep
coastal waters that can be developed consistent with state
and local government land use planning efforts, and is far
removed from any residential areas. The project has received
all required permits.
